What color lens do I need for skiing?

Oakley ski goggles are incredibly popular on the slopes. Many athletes use them or even have their own design. Popular models such as the Oakley Flight Deck , Oakley Fall Line M and Oakley Line Miner L are known for their excellent fit and innovations. In addition, all these models come with a wide range of lenses, so you can always choose the right lens for the right weather conditions. One lens is ideal for a sunny day with bright light, while the other is ideal for cloudy or snowy conditions. Oakley also has special lenses for situations with low light, such as early in the morning or when skiing at night. Read this blog to find out exactly which lens you need for which conditions!

The advantages of the Oakley Prizm Snow technology are that it is specially developed to filter certain wavelengths of light and thus enhance the contrast. This allows you to see the contours of the snow better, such as bumps and icy patches. Other brands often work with lens coatings or color filters, but these are usually not as refined as Prizm.

Oakley has a wide range of lenses with different light transmission. This way you always have a suitable lens for bright sunlight, cloudy days or even in the evening and when snowing. This freedom of choice allows you to perfectly adjust the lens to the conditions in which you are going skiing or snowboarding.

What lenses does Oakley have?

Extremely sunny (category 4)
Prizm Snow Black has a low light transmission of 5.5%, which makes it ideal for bright, sunny days. This lens falls into the highest protection category and is therefore ideal for reducing bright sunlight without sacrificing contrast and visibility.

Sunny (category 3)
Prizm Snow Dark Grey has a relatively low light transmission of 11%, which makes it suitable for bright, sunny days. This lens falls into category 3, which means your eyes are well protected from bright sunlight, while you still benefit from improved contrast and clear vision.

For skiers and snowboarders who regularly experience changing weather conditions – with the sun occasionally breaking through the clouds – the following

Sunny to partly cloudy (category 3)

  •          Prizm Snow Sapphire Iridium,
  •          Prizm Snow Argon Iridium,
  •          Prizm Rose Gold Iridium,
  •          Prizm Sage Gold Iridium
  •          Prizm Snow Torch Iridium.

With a light transmission of approximately 13-17%, they fall into category 3. This means that you are well protected against glare in bright light, while in cloudy conditions you still retain sufficient contrast to clearly see relief and details in the snow.

Partly cloudy (category 2)
Prizm Snow Garnet is suitable for cloudy days. The lens has a light transmission of 19%, making it ideal for bright to slightly cloudy conditions.

Cloudy and bad weather conditions (Category 2)

  •          Prizm Snow Persimmon
  •          Prizm Snow Iced
  •         Prizm Snow HI Pink iridium

There are several lenses suitable for cloudy days and bad weather conditions. These lenses fall into category 2.

Very dark conditions (Category 1)
Prizm Snow Clear has a very high light transmission of 64%, which makes it ideal for very dark or nighttime conditions. This lens falls into the lowest protection category, which allows you to maintain maximum visibility in low-light conditions.

Combine with a good ski helmet
Whether you're dealing with bright sunlight, cloudy skies, snowfall or even night skiing, Oakley has a lens to suit. Thanks to Prizm Snow technology, you'll enjoy clear vision and extra contrast at any time of day, so you can ski or snowboard more safely and comfortably.

In addition to good goggles, a comfortable and safe ski helmet is indispensable. In our blog about ski helmets you can read everything about what to look for when purchasing, how to choose the right size and what innovations there are in the field of protection. A well-fitting helmet with the right goggles not only provides extra safety, but also more wearing comfort and less chance of fogging glasses.
