It depends on the conditions and environment in which you skate. Here are some examples of lenses that work well in certain conditions.
Artificial ice rinks
On artificial ice rinks the most popular lenses are the Prizm Low Light and the Clear lens. It is often a bit dark on these rinks and these two lenses guarantee that your eyes are protected from the cold driving wind without making the view too dark. The Prizm Low Light has a pink tint and makes the view a bit softer, while the Clear lens is colorless and therefore does not change the view.
There are exceptions where you would be better off choosing a darker lens. If you are skating at a time when the sun is shining on the rink, you could be blinded if you are wearing a lens that is too light. In this case, you would be better off choosing a darker lens. The same applies if you often skate in Thialf. The lighting in Thialf can be so bright for some that they would prefer to skate with a more tinted lens. In these situations, consider the Prizm Sapphire, the Prizm 24K, Prizm Jade or Prizm Snow Sapphire lens.
Natural ice
Although it is becoming less common, it is the purest form of skating. When skating in full sun, it can get very bright and the darkest lenses can be very pleasant, these are the Prizm 24K, Prizm Black and Prizm Snow Black lenses. In changing conditions, the Clear to Black Photochromic lens can be a solution, it adapts depending on the amount of light that passes through the lens. It is transparent in cloudy conditions and as soon as the sun starts to shine, it becomes darker. In darker weather, for example in snow, the light lenses are ideal. Think of the previously mentioned Prizm Low Light or the Clear lens.
Finally, the advice in this article is a suggestion, so if you have a different preference, that is of course not wrong, everyone has their own taste.
